Britcoms

Here’s something to keep you occupied while new content here at AFC continues to fail to materialize. It’s the top ten all-time best Britcoms. They’re currently listed alphabetically until after each has been “advocated” on BBC by some notable Funny Briton or other. Then people will vote for their choice.

If anyone can think of a reason why Fawlty Towers won’t end up #1, please let me know, because I cannot imagine any other outcome. (With The Good Life as a close second, of course, or else I’ll flip the table and start setting shit on fire.)

So, my own Top 10 would be:

  1. Fawlty Towers
  2. The Good Life
  3. Coupling
  4. The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin
  5. Absolutely Fabulous
  6. Blackadder (1st series only)
  7. Butterflies
  8. The Vicar of Dibley
  9. As Time Goes By
  10. Fawlty Towers again (“So you’re two doctors?”)

(I’d give one of these slots to Monty Python’s Flying Circus if I could defend the notion that it was a “sitcom” and not the cultural open-brain surgery that it really was.)
